Getting my Hands on the Novel 

After I read on Wikipedia that Once on this Island was based on a novel, I decided I had to read it right away!  I turned to the internet and ran a search.  

I found a review in the New York Times from December 1, 1985.

I saw that the novel was available on Amazon.  Amazon Prime delivers really quickly but I couldn't wait!  

Luckily, I found a digital copy of the book that I could "check out" for an hour at the Internet Archive.  

It isn't a long book but I needed more than an hour to read it!  Luckily I was able to borrow it for a second hour.  One thing on the cover that caught my eye immediately was "A Fable" in the title.  I looked forward to reading the original story and finding out the nature of the fable.
